Anastasia M. McCarthy, Immediate Past President, is a partner in the Litigation Department at Hurwitz Fine, P.C. where she defends retailers, business owners, property owners, schools, and employers against a wide variety of claims. She has been the recipient of the Daily Record’s “Up and Coming Attorney” Award (2019) and Business First’s IDEA (Inclusion Diversity Equity Awareness) Award (2021). She has been named to the Upstate New York Super Lawyers Rising Stars List for the last four years and has been named to the Best Lawyers in America “Ones to Watch” list for the last several years as well.
Anastasia received her Juris Doctor degree cum laude from the University at Buffalo Law School. While in law school, she served as a research assistant and was an active participant in the moot court program. She also co-founded and served as co-president of the Women of SUNY Buffalo Law, was president of the LGBTQ law student group OUTLaw, and was a member of the Buffalo Moot Court and a clerk on the Buffalo Environmental Law Journal.
Before heading to law school, Anastasia earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in English literature and theatre from SUNY Geneseo. While studying at Geneseo, she was awarded the C. Agnes Rigney Award in writing drama and the Mary A. Thomas Award in poetry writing, and was inducted into Alpha Psi Omega, the theatre and dance honor society.
Anastasia is originally from Rochester. She and her wife, fellow Board Member, Anna McCarthy, now live in Williamsville with their children, Josie and Elliot, and their cat, Ben.
